Breakouts: Quarterbacks
|
Kevin Kolb -
Eagles - Taking over for McNabb
won't be easy, but keep in mind Kolb is the first quarterback
in history to throw for over 300 yards in his first two
starts.
The Eagles have a great young receiving crew which includes
big-play stud DeSean Jackson and up and coming Jeremy
Maclin, not to mention tight end Brent Celek. Even running
back LeSean McCoy is a good receiver.
Andy Reid's offense will be in high-gear in 2010 and even
though Kolb will likely be one of the last starting quarterbacks
selected, he has a chance to throw for over 4,000 yards
and 25 touchdowns. |
Mark Sanchez
- Jets - No surprise here
for the fifth-pick of the 2009 draft. He only threw 12
touchdowns against 20 interceptions in 2009, but that
is how most rookie years go for quarterbacks. In the playoffs
he threw four touchdowns and only two interceptions, so
the growth is there.
With his rookie year under his belt the confidence will
be there and the Jets added Santonio Holmes to a receiving
corps which includes Jerricho Cotchery, Braylon Edwards
and tight end Dustin Keller. Expectations should be tempered somewhat
for Sanchez, though. The Jets are a running team, especially
in the red zone. Nevertheless that strong run game and
strong receiving corps should help Sanchez to around 3,500
and 20 touchdowns. |
Chad Henne -
Dolphins - The Dolphins 2008
second-round draft pick out of Michigan really started
to put things together by the end of the 2009 season averaging
about 275 yards passing a game over the last five games.
Coming into 2010 Henne will have All-Pro receiver Brandon
Marshall to throw to and that can change everything. Not
only is Marshall a sure-handed big-play receiver, but
he will also draw coverage away from Henne's other receivers
like Davone Bess and Greg Camarillo. You add good receiving
running backs and a solid tight end in Anthony Fasano
and Henne has the tools to be a very good backup fantasy
quarterback. |
Seneca Wallace
- Browns - He is not the
starter coming into 2010, but starter Jake Delhomme seems
as if his best days are far behind him. Delhomme threw
a dismal 8 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while completing
a mere 55.5% of his passes. So unless he makes another
career comeback the door should be open sooner rather
than later for Wallace. Wallace has been a backup for
five years in Seattle and has thrown for 3,547 yards,
25 touchdowns and 17 interceptions with a 59.9 completion
percentage. Those numbers would make a very good starting
quarterback. The Browns have questions surrounding their
receiving crew with the losses of Kellen Winslow and Braylon
Edwards, but the Browns have talented second-year receiver
Mohamed Massaquoi, fourth-year receiver Joshua Cribbs,
whose big-play ability is scary, and newly signed tight
end Benjamin Watson. |
|
Breakouts: Wide Receivers
|
Michael Crabtree
- 49ers - Pretty simple here.
The most talented wide receiver in the 2009 draft missed
all of training camp and the first five games and still
managed 48 receptions for 625 yards and two touchdowns.
His development is directly connected to the development
of quarterback Alex Smith. Smith has shown that he might
pan out after all and if he does, expect a big season
from Crabtree that could include 80 receptions and 1,200
yards. |
| Jeremy Maclin
- Eagles - The Eagles' 2009
number-one draft pick was overshadowed by his teammate
DeSean Jackson, but Maclin could end up with more receptions
and similar fantasy value as Jackson at a much cheaper
price. He missed three games in 2009, but still managed
55 catches for 762 yards and four touchdowns and went
on to catch 7 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown in
the Eagles playoff loss to the Cowboys. |
Hakeem Nicks
- Giants - Eli Manning finally
proved that he is a legitimate top fantasy quarterback
in 2009 and he will have the opportunity to be better
in 2010 because of the upcoming Hakeem Nicks.
Nicks, the Giants number-one pick of 2009, caught 47 passes
for 790 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. With Steve
Smith drawing attention as the over-the-middle possession
receiver, it will leave Nicks to burn up the sidelines
for a 1,000 yard plus, ten touchdown season. |
James Jones -
Packers - Donald Driver comes
into 2010 as the starter but injuries are taking their
toll on him and he may possibly by regulated to a third-receiver
role. If so 2007 third-round draft pick, James Jones,
will start. Jones caught 32 passes for 440 yards and five
touchdowns. Preseason will show whether or not Jones is
the new starter in Green Bay. |
Devin Thomas
- Redskins - The acquisition
of veteran Pro-Bowler Donovan McNabb propels all the Redskin
receivers up a notch. Thomas will compete with wide receivers
Malcolm Kelly, Santana Moss and tight end Chris Cooley
for looks, but with an aging, injured Santana Moss, Thomas,
second-round pick of the 2009 draft, has a chance to become
the new #1 receiver in Washington and top 70 catches and
1,000 yards in 2010. |
Josh Cribbs -
Browns - He only caught 20
passes for 136 yards and one touchdown in 2009, so expectations
are not for a huge season here, but his nearly 2,000 yards
and the four touchdowns in the return game show Cribbs'
big-play ability. If you're league gives quality points
for return yardage Cribbs will have value. As a receiver
he should be able to top 50 receptions and 800 yards in
2010. |
