2010 Fantasy Football Draft Kit
|
|
|
|
Rookies: Quarterbacks
|
Jimmy Clausen
- Panthers - The second-round
draft pick out of Notre Dame has the best shot to start
of all the rookie quarterbacks. He will go up against
another young quarterback in Carolina, Matt Moore,
Clausen has a quick release and is an accurate passer.
He lacks a strong arm, but he has guts and confidence
to throw it up and let his receivers make plays. Clausen
would make an very good West Coast Offense quarterback
and could thrive in a run-first, short pass attack in
Carolina.
Receiver Steve Smith is all the Panthers have right now
and that makes all their quarterbacks risky, but youngster
Dwayne Jarrett and third-round draft pick Brandon LaFell
give them some hope. |
Sam Bradford
- Rams - 2010's top draft
pick, Bradford has a quick release and uses pump fake
to target overly aggressive defensive backs. He is a very
accurate quarterback and needs to be because he has average
NFL arm strength. Bradford is a winner and is the kind
of leader a team can rally around. He needs improve his
footwork and learn to avoid big its. He also needs to
bulk up and answer the durability questions to prove he
can handle a 16-game NFL season.
Bradford, like most rookies, won't see too much fantasy
success, but he could be a decent back up by seasons-end
in deep leagues. A.J. Feeley enters camp as the starter,
and he has a good shot to start because he played in the
system while with the Eagles when Rams offensive coordinator
Pat Shurmur was the quarterbacks coach.
The improvement of receivers Donnie Avery and rookie fourth-round
pick Mardy Gilyard, as well as and improved offensive
line (the Rams drafted tackle Rodger Saffold wtih their
second-round draft pick), will determine the success of
any quarterback in St. Louis. |
Tim Tebow - Broncos
- He has great leadership skills and a strong arm that
can get the football downfield accurately and in a hurry
and that is what propelled him into the first-round. But
he is not ready for NFL-type play and is likely a couple
years away from being able to start.
In Tennessee he usually locked on to one receiver and
that receiver usually got open and the play was made.
He needs to learn to go through the progressions in the
NFL and find the open receiver and that is easier said
than done.
Tebow is clearly a future pick with Kyle Orton at the
helm. Only injury or an end of the season give up would
lead to seeing Tebow starting in 2010. |
Colt McCoy -
Browns - McCoy is at his best
when he improvises. He makes good decisions, has good
accuracy and timing. He lacks ideal arm strength and will
depend on his movement in the pocket to be successful.
He comes into camp as the number three quarterback behind
veterans Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. Delhomme is
very average and is more of a backup at this point of
his career, but Wallace is young and has shown he can
start. Either way, it is unlikely that the fourth-round
pick out of Texas, Colt McCoy, will see any serious action
in 2010. |
|
Rookies: Wide Receivers
|
Dez Bryant -
Cowboys - Bryant missed the
majority of his senior season for NCAA infractions and
has character concerns, but their is no question about
his talent. At 6-2, 220 he has the perfect mix of size,
speed and athleticism to be a top NFL receiver.
The best receiver in the draft went to one of the best
team-situations, the Dallas Cowboys. The only question
for Bryant is how many looks he will get with the likes
of Miles Austin, Roy Williams, Jason Witten and others
surrounding him. He will be hit and miss week-to-week,
but could top 1,000 yards by seasons-end. |
| Demaryius Thomas
- Broncos - The 6-3, 230-pounder
has the size to dominate in the NFL. He is not a burner,
but has adequate NFL speed. He is a bit raw and may need
a year or two to blossom. He will battle possession receiver
Jabar Gaffney and veteran Brandon Stokley for the starting
job. His growth in training camp will show if he has fantasy
value in 2010. |
Arrelious Benn
- Bucs - He had a big sophomore
season catching 67 passes for 1,055 yards. Benn was hindered
by a nagging ankle injury for much of his final year at
Illinois. He is very dangerous after catch with his combination
of size and speed he has the ability to go up and high
and get catches when in traffic.
The second-round pick comes into a weak receiver core
and could start from day one. Mike Williams and Michael
Clayton is below average competition. Tight end Kellen
Winslow gives the Bucs the help over the middle and Benn
could be the man on the sidelines and have a solid rookie
year. |
Golden Tate
- Seahawks - He had a huge
Senior year with his Notre Dame counterpart Jimmy Clausen
catching 93 passes for 1,496 yards and 16 touchdowns.
At 5'11, 195, Tate is average size, but has great initial
speed and the second gear necessary to make big plays
in the NFL.
With possession-receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh the Seahawks
have their possession receiver. 2009 third-round pick
Deon Butler and Tate will battle for the second receiver,
but the loser could be a solid #3 receiver. |
